World Summit

Stakeholders that are involved

  1. Governments
Regardless of national income or infrastructure capabilities, both governments have a stake in the Information Society. Governments play a critical role in communicating the advantages of the information society to the general public by developing national and global strategies and mechanisms to address the information society's challenges. In the public interest, governments should raise awareness, make information more accessible to the public, and lay the groundwork for all people to benefit from information and communication technology in terms of enhancing their quality of life, social services, and economic opportunities.

  2. Business organizations
In collaboration with governments and civil society, the private sector will play an active role in achieving the global agenda's development goals by proposing models that are economically viable. The private sector's contribution is critical in establishing the physical conditions that allow global access to high-value information and communication technology services. The presence of business leaders at the summit will help to boost economic growth and create new alliances that will promote technology transfer, raise awareness of new technologies, and facilitate the development of local content and skilled labor.
In addition to the summit itself, members of the ICT sector, who serve a broad cross-section of the industry, played an important role in the summit's preparations.

  3. Civil Society
Civil society is critical in assessing the social and cultural implications of current trends, as well as bringing attention to the need for democratic transparency to be incorporated into strategic decisions made at all levels. Civil society is an important player in international cooperation because of its diversity and, at times, realistic methods of coping with issues.

  4. The family of the United Nations
In an age when countries and cultures are tied together in unprecedented ways, the summit offered a rare platform for the global community to focus on, debate, and shape our shared destiny. By bringing together heads of state, the private sector, international organizations, and civil society to accomplish shared goals, the United Nations family of organizations acts as a catalyst for progress.

  5. International organizations
To ensure that the summit process is as inclusive as possible, attempts have been made to facilitate input from a wide range of domestic and global organizations.

  6. Media Communications technology is a way of transmitting and maintaining information and content, not an end in itself. Media organizations are required to propose policies and commitments that help the media achieve its objectives.
