The National Committee for the Information Society sponsors the 2016 World Summit on the Information Society Forum

The World Summit on the Information Society Forum, which is taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, is co-sponsored by the National Committee for the Information Society. His Excellency the Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its assistance in putting the Summit's outcomes into action, as well as congratulating the Kingdom on winning the Summit Awards for the fifth year in a row, this time in the e-business category, for the Attaa Digital program.

The total number of awards received by the Kingdom from WSIS has reached 7 awards since 2012. The Ministry of Education, a member of the National Committee for the Information Society, was awarded a Certificate of Excellence for your job program and mission, which aims to create an effective partnership in the field of scholarships and employment between the Ministry and institutions and bodies in the public sector in the Kingdom, according to the results announced yesterday. King Saud University received a Certificate of Excellence for its efforts on implementing the digital curriculum creation project, which provides faculty members with the resources they need to build courses in a digital format which helps expand online learning. The Ministry of Health also received a Certificate of Excellence for implementing the treatment project abroad.

Dr. Abdulaziz bin Salem Al-Ruwais, Chairman of the National Committee for the Information Society and Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, congratulated the award winners. He went on to say that the Kingdom pays special attention to the implementation of the World Summit on the Information Society's outcomes, highlighting the Kingdom’s efforts on the international level. HE also expressed the Kingdom’s commitment to realize the Summit's goals.

The National Committee for the Information Society was established in 2006, after the end of the second phase of the World Summit on the Information Society, The National Committee for the Information Society includes in its membership 9 ministries in addition to King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, the Communications and Information Technology Commission, the Council of Chambers of Commerce, and 3 specialized associations.It is noteworthy that the Kingdom is participating with a specialized delegation in this event, in addition to the participation of ministers and representatives from member states of the United Nations, and the National Committee for the Information Society, in cooperation with the bodies represented in its membership also will organize workshops that highlight the Kingdom’s efforts in implementing the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society.
