KSA competes for the United Nations awards for the projects of the World Summit on the Information Society

The Kingdom is participating in the World Summit on the Information Society Forum with a specialized delegation of representatives from relevant government and private agencies, and led by His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission and Chairman of the National Committee for the Information Society, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Salem Al-Ruwais. The WSIS forum is held in Geneva at the headquarters of the International Telecommunication Union, the United Nations specialized organization in communications and technology Information, during the period from 08 to 12 April 2019.

As a strategic partner in implementing the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society and achieving sustainable development goals, and a key player in promoting a culture of excellence and creativity in the field of communications and information technology at the international level, the Kingdom will open the forum's work with a keynote speech.

During the World Summit on the Information Society Forum, the Kingdom's projects competed with (1062) projects from across the globe, covering a wide range of topics and areas, including building confidence and security in the use of communications and information technology, e-government, information and communication infrastructure, e-education, e-health, e-environment, and more.

The forum is the largest annual gathering under the umbrella of the United Nations to discuss the developments of the information society and discuss the latest developments. The theme of the forum for this year will be "Communication and Information Technology for the Achieving Sustainable Development Goals", organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. UNESCO, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

More than (100) discussion sessions and workshops will be held during the forum, and (10) high-level sessions covering a number of themes and issues of international concern, which will contribute to achieving the sustainable development goals.

The Kingdom has won (8) awards and (8) certificates of excellence in the WSIS projects awards since its launch in 2012.
