Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission attends the World Summit on the Information Society Forum 2018

​His Excellency the Governor of the Communications and Information Technology Commission, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Salem Al-Ruwais, attended the opening of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS Forum 2018) today, as the Kingdom is a strategic partner in achieving the goals of the World Summit on the Information Society and related events. And a significant participant in creating a worldwide culture of quality and creativity in everything linked to the ICT industry.

His Excellency Dr. Al-Ruwais said in his opening remarks that the Kingdom has been concerned with developing the information society and enabling digital transformation, and that it has made various efforts to invest in its human and financial resources, and has even raced ahead of the competition to achieve leadership in this field through the Kingdom's Vision 2030. He went on to say that the Industrial Revolution was a turning point in history. “The Fourth Industrial Revolution, which we are experiencing now, will be a significant facilitator in attaining the Kingdom's Vision 2030, and its components will contribute to the realization of many of the vision's programs and projects, including the development of the "NEOM" smart city. In which the number of robots outnumbers people, and which incorporates a variety of cutting-edge technologies such as Reality Virtualization, Artificial Intelligence, and Intelligent Transportation Systems” HE stated.

During the forum, the winners of the WSIS prizes were announced. Including the Ministry of Education, which won the Business Award for the self-service system with human resources, and the Ministry of Education and Tatweer Company for Educational Services, which received two certificates of excellence.

His Excellency congratulated the Ministry of Education and Tatweer Company for Educational Services on this occasion, praising the efforts of all Saudi government and private agencies participating in highlighting their efforts that fall within the framework of the WSIS forum.

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) are all organizing the WSIS Forum. The forum will involve 100 sessions and workshops, as well as 10 high-level sessions covering a variety of subjects related to the summit's outcomes.
